A lot of families have traditions and here is ours. The Reno National Championship Air Races.
My parents brought me when I was 4y and as many know, my love for flying began with my dad. I have been to 34 Air Races. Only interrupted by my dog running away (she was way more important than the Races😬) and Uncle Sam calling my name.
My brother has been coming since he was six weeks old. He has me beat in consecutive appearances, but not it total years.
And then there’s my dad. The Races started in 1964 on a dirt strip. In 1967 it moved to its current location and that was my dad’s first year. This year marked his 52 consecutive year of attendance! I owe my love of flying to this man!
We have seen a lot... the youngsters become the old timers, the sons become champions, amazing displays of aerobatics, heart pounding races, heartbreaking crashes, blistering heat, snow (very true), thunderstorms, we’ve made lifelong Air Race friends and family and one thing has remained constant...none of us would trade it for the world!
We’ll be back next year!
Fly Low, Fly Fast, Turn Left!
