The Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø, formally known as Tromsdalen Church. Despite its nickname, it is a parish church and not, in fact, a cathedral as it is commonly called. The church was designed by the architect Jan Inge Hovig and built in 1965 in the Tromsdalen valley.
Eleven aluminum-coated concrete panels on either side of the roof provide the cathedral’s bold form, often compared to the style of the Sydney Opera House, though the Opera was built later in 1973. The church seats about 600 people.
