In Haifa, Israel, system of urban stairs sutures public and private space with vistas that sweep towards the Mediterranean and green corridors. These stairs traverse monuments, markets, cinemas, and residential homes.
Many of these urban stairs, originally constructed in the first part of the 20th century, remain neglected, lack regular care, maintenance, and clear jurisdiction. Sit(e)lines of a Garden City re-imagines these stairs as spaces of heterogeneous mingling that offer the potential to become a true collective space, with active places to be in, meet neighbors and shared experience of the city at an intimate scale.
The photography was captured by Gili Merin @gilimerin , commissioned for this project.
