The American Green Berets fighter shows off a unique trophy captured in Vietnam: a German automatic rifle from the Second World War FG-42. This weapon was rarely found on the battlefields of World War II, since only a little more than 5,000 copies of the FG-42 were made. They entered the German airborne units of the Luftwaffe from 1943-1944. Light (relatively) and lethal, something between a machine gun and a light machine gun, an advanced design for its time, and it was also possible to hang an optical sight on it. After the war, about 1,500 rifles of this type went to Yugoslavia and, probably, some went to the USSR and later were sent to Vietnam as aid. By the way, the technical solutions used in the design of the FG-42 influenced the development of another, full-fledged "participant" in the Vietnam War - a single M60 machine gun. By the way, the FG-42 is not the only German small arms from the Second World War, which was used by the Vietnamese. For example, the MG-34 machine gun can be seen on a number of chronicles in action.
